Family & Consumer Sciences

At Griswold High School, the Family & Consumer Sciences (F&CS) department offers hands-on, real-world learning for students in grades 9–12.

Start with the foundational Culinary course—a prerequisite for all other food-related classes—which teaches essential life skills like kitchen safety, sanitation (yes, even laundry), knife handling, and basic nutrition. From there, students can dive into a full menu of six culinary and bake shop courses, building on their skills while exploring the art and science of cooking and baking.

But it's not just about what’s on the plate—this department also includes Early Childhood Education classes designed for students interested in teaching, running a daycare, or simply learning how to care for young children.

Whether you're dreaming of a career in the kitchen or the classroom, Family & Consumer Sciences is where practical skills meet real opportunities.  View the F&CS Course Catalog on the School Counseling Google Site here.

All F&CS classes are taught by Mrs. Neeley, a professionally trained pastry chef from Johnson & Whales University in Providence, and a Griswold High School graduate who chose her career path while learning from Mrs. Maynard in the same culinary classroom she teaches in today.
