Frequently Asked Questions

Please email the teacher of the class. They are your best resource for obtaining information and then working with you and your student with regard to your concern. Teacher emails can be found in the faculty & staff directory.

For GPA and/or class rank, please email your student's school counselor.

To request a transcript, please contact School Counseling Secretary Darlene Melgey. In your email request, please include the following:

1. Name (maiden name if applicable)
2. Date of birth
3. Date of graduation (year)
4. Full address where you would like the transcript to be sent
   Please note that post-secondary institutions need to have an official transcript sent directly to the school from Griswold High School

The easiest way to excuse an absence is to email your name, your student's name and reason for the absence to
ghsattendance@griswoldpublicschools.org. Whenever possible, the email should be sent by 8:30 a.m.

OR

Call the GHS Main Office at (860) 376-7640. Press 1 for attendance. Provide your name, the student's name, and the reason for the absence. Follow up with a note when your student returns with the same information. 

NOTE: To have an absence medically excused, a doctor's note must be provided to the office.

Email ghsattendance@griswoldpublicschools.org and include: Your name, Your student's name, the time for the early dismissal, and the reason for dismissal. 

OR

Provide a Handwritten Note to the GHS Main Office by your student on the day of the early dismissal. The office staff will call to confirm all notes with a parent/guardian. On the note, please include your name, your student's name, the time for the early dismissal, and the reason for dismissal.

Try to Troubleshoot your Chromebook:

1. Since this problem is often caused by the battery going into "storage mode" by being drained completely, make sure the Chromebook is plugged in when you do these steps.
2. With the Chromebook off, press and hold ecs + refresh arrow + power for 2 or 3 seconds
3. Once you see the white screen with the pictures of a thumbdrive and sd card asking for recovery media, power down the Chromebook by pressing just the power button.
4. Wait 30 seconds and press power to turn the Chromebook back on. It may take up to a minute to come back on.
5. Log into your Chromebook as you normally would.

If this doesn't fix the issue, you can bring your Chromebook to the Library Media Center in school.

Please note: if the student shared their username and password with the guidance department and has not changed either, we may have this information on file. If not, the student will need to go through the 'forgot username' or 'forgot password' steps on Collegeboard.org or contact Collegeboard directly for account help at (866) 392-4089.

If you can't get into your Naviance (Student Success Plan Resource) account, please email DMelgey@griswoldpublicschools.org.

If you have moved within town, you can change household address information in Infinite Campus, and it will be reviewed/approved by the GHS Administrative Assistant. Learn more here.

If your family has moved outside of town or to a sending town, you may need to provide more information to the Main Office or School Counseling Office. Please contact the School Counseling Secretary at DMelgey@griswoldpublicschools.org.

Griswold Public Schools distributes alerts about school closures, delays and early dismissals to parents/guardians of students enrolled in GPS (email notifications through Infinite Campus and the School Messenger Notify automated phone service). Families, students, and staff should pay close attention on questionable days for these messages and community broadcasts. 

In the event of inclement weather or other school closure, the following stations will broadcast school closing/delay notices:

• WFSB (Channel 3)
• WCTY (97.7 FM)
• WICH (1310 AM) 
• Q105 FM
• WILI (98.3 FM)
• WTNH (Channel 8)
• WKSS (95.7 FM)
• WVIT (Channel 30)
• WDRC (102.9 FM)

Some of these stations have a SMS Text Message subscription service, where you can be notified about school closures via text.

Whenever possible, the Superintendent will choose a DELAYED OPENING rather than a cancellation.

GHS Students from Sending Towns:

For Griswold High School students from sending towns, we advise signing up for School Closure Alerts for your child’s home district and Griswold Public Schools. If your child's home district is closed, your child will not have access to bus transportation and may require alternative transportation to GHS, if it remains open.

Griswold Students Attending other High Schools

For students from Griswold attending other high schools (tech, VOAG, magnet schools, etc.), sign up for School Closure Alerts for your child’s school and Griswold Public Schools. If GPS is closed, your child will not have access to bus transportation, even if their school remains open. 

There is no supply list for high school. Rather, students will receive a course syllabus on the first days of school with required/recommended materials for class. All students will also receive an agenda, which is required every day in every class. For the first days of school, we recommend a simple notebook and writing utensil. Please contact the main office for any support needed with supplies!
