Testing Information

The SAT is important for all students as it provides a standardized measure of academic abilities, aiding college admissions and scholarship opportunities. It also helps students assess their strengths and weaknesses, and can even be a factor in securing financial aid. While some colleges are test-optional, the SAT can still be a valuable asset for college and competitive career, showcasing a student's potential and helping them stand out, especially when compared to similar applicants.

The NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) are important for all students because they provide a framework for developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific literacy, skills essential for success in a rapidly changing world. NGSS emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world applications, making science more engaging and relevant for all learners, regardless of their background or future career paths, according to NGSS

PSATs (practice SATs) will be administered during a school day in October to all Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors (grades 9-11). The cost of the practice standardized test is covered by the school district. There are no make-ups for this test.

The PSAT in October is the last practice test before the spring SAT Exam that all juniors are required to take per CT State Law, and the qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship Competition for Juniors.

All Juniors (grade 11) will take the SAT in the spring at no charge. Additional tests or re-takes may be taken on other dates for $55 (qualifying low-income students can take the test again for free; see your counselor if this does not appear when you log into your College Board account). Students who meet or exceed the State benchmark for both Reading/Writing and Math will earn a white cord for graduation and be exempt from their English and Math Final Exam.

All Juniors (grade 11) will take the NGSS in the spring at no charge. Students who meet or exceed the State benchmark will earn a pin for graduation and will be exempt from their Science Final Exam.
