Clubs & Activities

Griswold High School has over 50 club and organizations that take place during and after school. Participation in clubs is an important part of the high school experience to develop new interests and hone skills, and can be a great addition to a student's college resume.

Some of the most notable clubs are listed below. Additionally, here are some links to other relevant programs:

Activity Period

Each Friday, there is an Activity Period at Griswold High School where students have the opportunity to choose an enrichment program hosted by a GHS teacher. Programs are educational and fun, including topics like American Sign Language, Adult Coloring and Relaxing, Fitness Club, Poetry and Book Club, Dungeons and Dragons, film studies, quiet study groups, and various music programs. There is something for every student!

National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Students in grades 10-12 are invited to join NHS based on their GPA and character. Each year there is an induction ceremony. Officers and members create group service projects to help bolster GHS, including hosting the annual blood drive, as well as the Griswold School District and the Griswold community at large.

Model UN (United Nations)

Model UN is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and its other multilateral bodies where students perform an ambassador role while debating topics such as gender equality, climate action, global health, and more. Model UN meets during Activity Period on Fridays.

The advisors of Model UN are Douglas Craig and Nadine Keane.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA)

FBLA meets during Activity Period on Fridays, and runs the School Store before and after school, as well as during lunch periods.

The advisor of FBLA is Jodene Bromley.

Student Leadership Council

Student Leadership Council (SLC) is a group of students from all grades (9-12) who seek to empower student voice and choice in the school, provide activities for social and emotional well-being, connect with the Griswold community, and work on leadership capabilities. Being part of a group like SLC is a great experience for all students as it helps develop skills that will be useful in college, career, and beyond. 

The SLC often connects with community organizations to host fundraisers and events at GHS. Each spring, the SLC hosts a Wellness Day. They also sell candy-grams during the holidays, and many other fundraising events.

SLC regularly meets during Activity Period on Fridays. The Student Leadership Council advisor is Ms. Logan Tonucci-Daniels. If you want to make your voice heard at GHS, speak with the advisor to join!

Unified Club

The Unified Club is a group that meets during activity period where students can connect with their peers with special needs through shared experiences. The Club participates in crafts, activities and games as a group, as well as plans events and activities together. The Unified Club creates a community of acceptance and respect.

Griswold High School launched a unified basketball program in 2023-2024 and hosted an in-school game; the program hopes to grow to participate in the ECC Unified Basketball league.

Tri-M Music Honor Society

Students in the music program can apply to become a member of Griswold's chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society (formerly Modern Music Masters). Students qualify for induction by being enrolled in a music ensemble on campus and earning an A or higher in those classes, plus an overall GPA of 85 or higher. Anonymous applications are screened by Tri-M advisors and voted on by membership. It is a great resume-booster, and Tri-M students participate in community projects related to the performing arts.
