Homecoming Pep Rally
The pep rally is an in-school event for students/staff only. Each class's student committee and advisor will have time during the school day to decorate their “Class Wall” in the gym ahead of the pep rally. These will be scored and counted towards the overall Homecoming spirit winners -- tallying up participation in spirit week days, the pep rally decorations, and the parade float decorations.
All pep rally decoration materials need to be dropped off to GHS between the hours of 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday night. There are to be no materials/decorations dropped off on Friday, so please plan accordingly.
Homecoming Parade
The Homecoming Parade steps off from campus at 4:00 p.m. The Parade includes themed floats by each GHS Class, the Homecoming Court by class, the GHS Band, GHS Cheerleaders, the Griswold Youth Football & Cheerleaders, GPS administrators, town representatives, the local fire company and State Troopers.
Each year, GHS makes the call to proceed with the parade depending on the weather by 9 a.m. on the day of the parade.
Following the school day, students participating in the parade will have until 3:45 p.m. to finalize their float. There should be NO parents/guardians allowed on campus to help during this time. This is for students only. The only adult permitted during this time is the one approved to be driving the float. Floats are allowed to be prepared with items not utilized for the walls ahead of time (for example, if a float has tall pillars, the float can arrive with those in place).
The parade route is as follows:
- Line up between GMS and GES heading out towards Slater Avenue.
- Turn left on Slater Avenue, and immediately turn right on Ann Street.
- Turn left at the end of Ann Street on Pleasant View.
- Bear left at the end of Pleasant View on Ashland Street.
- Turn left on Main Street
- Turn left on Slater Avenue and end at the tennis courts at GHS.
The community is invited to stand alongside the parade route, including on the Slater Avenue side of Griswold Middle School. Please be safe along the road as candy and other treats may be thrown from floats.
Griswold High School Alma Mater
We think of you, oh Griswold High
with pride that here we came.
You helped us become what we are,
and gave our lives an aim.
The green, the white, the teams we cheered,
teachers that we knew,
provide us with the memories
to last our whole life through.
Oh Griswold High, oh Griswold High,
you stand so proud and true.
We're glad that we can always say,
we are part of you.
The lessons learned, the good times had,
the laughter and the tears,
they fill our lives with happiness,
and wash away our fears.
The green, the white, the teams we cheered,
friends side by side,
provide us with the memories,
as through life we stride.
Oh Griswold High, oh Griswold High,
you stand so proud and true.
We're glad that we can always say,
we are part of you.
